"Background: Yekooche First Nation is a community of approximately 120 people, located about 85 km northwest of Fort St. James, BC. The community is remote, accessible only by logging road and has since the mid 1990‟s been pushing its community forward, towards treaty.
The Yekoochet'en (people of Yekooche) lived in the Stuart Lake area for thousands of years and in 1994 broke away from Tl‟azt‟en Nation to form their own community taking their four reserve areas with them and became known as the Yekooche
First Nation. The traditional language of the Yekoochet'en is Carrier. "
