UGTS and FoodMesh Have Come Together To Make Sure That the Most Vulnerable Members of Our Community Don’t Go Hungry During These Difficult Times
Homebound individuals in need across Greater Vancouver can now access a FREE home-delivered food hamper
VANCOUVER, B.C. (June 9, 2020) - Unique Get Together Society (UGTS), a Vancouver-based non-profit organization, has partnered with FoodMesh to offer a FREE home-delivered food hamper to all homebound individuals in need—seniors, people with disabilities, single parents—across Greater Vancouver, including Indian reserves, because they deserve to have easy access to food and essential supplies at any time.
Every month, more than 10,000 seniors and over 41,000 individuals under social or disability income visit a Food Bank across BC. The food bank’s client list has grown 10% every week since the COVID-19 crisis began, making lines and waiting times unbearable to most people in need.
Seniors and people with disabilities have to commute to the food bank, camp out for almost two hours, and then commute back to their homes every week just to ensure there is food on the table. A weekly grind that is exhausting, even for their able-bodied peers.
Yes, there are more than a dozen food banks across Metro Vancouver, but just a few will deliver to their door. For that very reason, UGTS and FoodMesh have come together to make sure that the most vulnerable members of our community don’t go hungry during these difficult times. People in need can get a food basket every week delivered to their door by registering to our Food Hamper Program on our website or by emailing [email protected] or calling (236) 317-3153.
Thanks for caring and sharing!
