Everything was set for the transition of Chief Commissioner from Sophie Pierre to George Abbott on April 1st.  As per the agreement between the parties, all three parties agreed that George Abbot was to be the new Chief Commissioner.

The long awaited Round Table on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women happened yesterday.  Dialogue was to have begun and some concrete action was to be arrived at.  There was hope and anticipation that maybe this time, solutions could be formulated.

As on the provincial front, federal issues continued to plague First Nation/governmental relations in 2014.  2015 promises to be no better unless Harper and his Conservative government are voted out or there is a drastic change in how the Federal government works with Firs

2014 was quite the year for First Nations in Indian Country across Turtle Island.  Many headlines were attributed to clashes between First Nations and the provincial and federal governments.

Burnaby Mountain, the site of great controversy, and the battlefield for the proposed location for boring a hole through the mountain for Kinder Morgan’s Transmountain pipeline.

We hear from the BC government that many benefits will flow to the First Nations during the construction and operation of the Site C Dam. They use these benefits as a way of rationalizing destroying large tracts of First Nations territories, their rights and important sites. 

The long awaited September 11th meeting between the Chiefs of BC and BC Government happened without much of a breakthrough or much a splash in the media for that matter.  Considering the fact that the entire province and its resources are in question this is quite astonish
